The M4 CQBR (Close Quarters Battle Receiver) is a replacement upper receiver for the M4A1 Carbine that was originally conceived by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center to provide Naval Special Forces with a light short-barreled weapon for close quarter fighting. With the tactical RIS handguard at its core, it was designed according to the same principles as the USSOCOM SPR (Special Operations Peculiar Modification) program allowing for flexible weapon configurations.
Combining its light weight and compact size with the firepower of the M4A1, the weapon is ideally suited for VIP protection, urban warfare, interior combat, and other similar CQB scenarios. As a result of its growing popularity, the weapon has been developed into a complete weapon system, not just an upper receiver; still called CQBR – but with the CQBR acronym now standing for Close Quarters Battle Rifle.
Subsequently the weapon was named as the MK18 by USSOCOM. The main difference between the Mod1 and Mod0 versions is that the original KAC tactical RIS handguard has been replaced by the Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II tactical handguard. In addition it no longer uses a traditional sight mechanism, and is has been designed so that barrel of the gun doesn’t touch the forend and tactical handguard system, thereby increasing shooting accuracy. As a result, the weapon has been widely adopted by the US Navy Seals and other Special Forces units.
Although VFC was quite late bringing the VFC GBB series to market, its close attention to detail and commitment to high levels of accuracy has meant that it is now a leader in the GBB market. Hot on the heels of the launch of the highly-acclaimed M4A1 GBB, the company’s MK18 Mod1 integrates Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II tactical handguard and is manufactured with a large quantity of stainless steel components. The weapon also comes with a genuine Colt marking and standard USSOCOM Flat Dark Earth handle, rear sight, forend, tactical handle, stock, and other components in DE color – making it the perfect choice for the enthusiast.
